Executive Director
Darlene MacLean

Darlene has a background in Community Development and has worked in the non-profit sector for over 18 years.  She is the mother of three grown children and a very young grandmother to 8.  She has a sincere love for children and youth, diversity and equality and social justice.  She was the creator and developer of the first community kitchens and trading cupboards which are being used in many of the Family Resource Centre’s on the east coast of Canada and is also the developer of Surviving on a Shoestring Budget Program.

Darlene’s passions are her family, working with children and youth, eliminating poverty and food security.  Her hobbies are reading, sewing, cooking, baking, walking, water aerobics and playing scrabble.

Program Director
Angeline Richardson

Angeline is a graduate of The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, achieving a Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Fine Art.  She is also a certified Aroma Therapist, retired Reiki Master/Teacher and is currently working towards becoming a CranioSacral Therapist.  She is the owner and operator of Angels’ Essentials where she offers Aromatherapy, Cranial Therapy, and Crystal Therapy consultations as well as provide Spirit Card readings and Palm Readings to her clients.

She has worked for the Boys and Girls Club since February 28, 2006 as the Program Director.  She  works part-time for the Spryfield Lions Club as a grant researcher and received over $130,000 in grants last year for the recreation complex.

Angeline was born in Fredericton, NB and raised in Puerto Rico and Cape Breton. She has lived in Spryfield for 9 years and loves the community so much that she regularly picks up garbage to make the community a better place to live for everyone.  Angeline meditates every morning, loves fruits and vegetables and plans on living in a Spanish speaking country when she grows up.  Angeline owns 11 birds, 3 dogs and 37.5 fish. She freely gives her time and money to many charities like the World Wildlife Fund, the Art of Living-Care for Children Foundation, the IWK, the Spryfield Lions Club and of course the Boys and Girls Club of Spryfield. After School Staff
Sharon Buckler

Sharon graduated from Acadia University with a degree in English. Since then, she has had more experiences than any one of us really knows. She’s been a radio broadcaster, an actress, a model, has worked for the Halifax Regional School Board, and much more. She still makes time each week to spend with our members, though, and we’re better for it.

After School Staff
Julie Love

Julie was born and raised in PEI, eventually moving to Halifax to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sociology at Saint Mary's University. She is currently in her second and final year of her Bachelor of Elementary Education degree at Acadia, which she commutes to each week. Julie is a newlywed and her husband is also persuing a teaching career. They have been living in the Spryfield area for the past two years and love it! Julie has been working at the Boys and Girls Club as an After School Leader since October of 2007, and says that she has learned more from the kids there then she could have ever imagined! In her spare time she enjoys camping, traveling, listening to live music and being active.

Brian Shay

Brian had lived in Halifax from birth until the tender age of 24 when he moved to Maine in pursuit of his second university degree. This time around Brian figured that a Bachelor of Education in secondary social studies would go well with his undergraduate degree from SMU. Brian is looking forward to the fall of 2010 when he’ll be returning to a junior high and high school classroom as a student teacher. Brian hopes that his experience with the Boys and Girls Club since 2006 will help prepare him and give him some good ideas for fun and interesting lessons.
