The After School Program is the centrepiece of our Boys and Girls Club. Operating 5 days a week, participants are able to be involved in a number of activities each day. From cooking to homework help to drumming to painting and everything in between! Our program runs on the following schedule and consists of many of the programs listed below:

2:30-4:00
Free Play

Children and youth arrive
Arts and crafts, music, computers, board games, etc.

4:00-4:15
Healthy Snack
At 4:00 each day, we all sit down together and have a healthy after school snack such as fruits, cheese, crackers, and juice.

4:15-5:15
Program time!
During this time, kids will break off into groups and get involved in programs designed by staff members. This can be anything from a pool tournament, to building rocket cars, to homework help, to a talent show. During this time, we will also run a number of specific programs, which you can learn about below.

A Place to Belong
A Place to Belong is a project funded by the Department of Community Services. It contains three programs, all of which the Boys and Girls Club of Spryfield is proud to offer. Without the support of the Department of Community Services, these programs would not be possible.

Boys and Girls on the Move
Boys and Girls on the Move is a healthy living and nutrition program that brings our participants to the gym, bowling, skating, swimming, and to the kitchen to cook. While cooking, participants are able to cook a meal for the family and learn the skills necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle. While skating, bowling, swimming, or playing at the gym, participants are able to engage in physical activity at their own level and are encouraged to play and have fun!

Torch Club
Torch Club is a leadership program for kids aged 9-11. In this program, kids are encouraged to design and implement programs for themselves as well as take on leadership roles. Part of this program requires participants to give back to the community, and they certainly are! In recent months, members have done a community clean-up of the MacIntosh Runs and an empty lot on the Herring Cove Road while other members have organized fundraisers for the World Wildlife Fund.

Keystone Club
Keystone Club – like the Torch Club – is a leadership program, but aimed at youth 12-15. Youth program and implement their own activities and run a space they like to call the “Youth Café.” Members are required to volunteer in the community or in the Club and help out whenever they can.

Singing Club
Singing Club happens once a month and nurtures talent in all of the great singers we have at the Club. Participants get professional tips and opportunities to perform in front of a crowd.

Music Instruction
Kids get to sit down behind a drum kit or sit down with a guitar and learn how to play anything from Free Bird to the latest Hannah Montana song. Keep in mind, though, there is absolutely no Stairway!

Homework Club
Frontier College
The Boys and Girls Club has partnered with Frontier College [a national literacy organization] to offer free homework help and tutoring to anyone interested.

The Zone
The Zone happens once a week and gives kids the opportunity to see the fun and cool parts of Science. One week they might make a volcano and the next a circuit board. There’s always something very cool happening in The Zone!

Special Events
From time to time we will bring in a special guest or hold an event for our members. In the past we’ve had a lizard specialist come in, we’ve had talent shows, we’ve had parties and dances and much more!

Youth Café
The Youth Café gives our older Keystone-aged members a place to hang around without the younger kids. Members come to hang out, play games, talk with friends, grab a bite to eat and learn some great leadership skills while they’re there.
